Our Mission

We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our community partners and neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Together, with over 2,600 Ys across the country we are committed to youth development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The mission of the Kokomo Family YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for ALL.

Early Learning Center

How to Apply

All children must be enrolled to attend the Early Learning Center. An orientation is required before enrollment is official. The orientation process includes meeting the teacher, visiting the classroom, discussion of expectations, reviewing all completed paperwork and going over the parent handbook (policies and procedures). Enrollment applications are accepted without regard to race, religion, sex, or national origin depending on available space. The first week’s tuition and the registration fee must be paid prior to child’s first day.

1. How do I apply?

All children must be enrolled to attend the Early Learning Center. An orientation is required before enrollment is official. The orientation process includes meeting the teacher, visiting the classroom, discussion of expectations, reviewing all completed paperwork and going over the parent handbook (policies and procedures). Enrollment applications are accepted without regard to race, religion, sex, or national origin depending on available space. The first week’s tuition and the registration fee must be paid prior to child’s first day. Other required items include, a physical completed within the last year, a feeding plan for children under 1 year of age, a copy of the official birth certificate and a copy of the child’s IEP/IFSP if applicable. Immunization updates should be submitted when they occur.

2. What ages do you serve?

We serve children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old.

3. Payments and Credit Days?

Upon enrollment parents provide a typical work week schedule so we can ensure there is enough staff coverage. Please notify the front office of any schedule updates so we can adjust accordingly.

There is a one-time $30 registration fee for one child, $40 for multiple children due at enrollment and each year in August. There is a $30 activity fee per child charged in March and September. These fees are non-refundable.

A two week advance written notice is required when withdrawing. This gives us an opportunity to fill the vacancy. If notice is not given, two regularly scheduled weeks of tuition will be charged.

Weekly fees are non-refundable and are due Friday at 6 p.m. for the upcoming week.  The front office staff will receive payments either in cash or by credit card. Tuition paid after drop off on Monday will be charged a $20.00 late fee. Care will be terminated for unpaid balances exceeding two weeks. Families that receive financial assistance are expected to swipe CCDF cards daily, at drop off and pick up as required by the agency. If cards have not been swiped twice for each day of the current week, a late fee of $20.00 will be charged.

Late fees are to be paid immediately. If fees are not paid immediately, the center will not provide care for children until all fees are paid in full.

Once a child is enrolled, we staff accordingly to maintain ratios and to have provisions for each child, therefore you will be charged whether your child is in attendance or not. Child care fees are due on a continuous basis, even if your child is not in attendance when payment is due.

All self-paying families receive ten (10) credit days per year, per child. Credit days are to be used at the family’s discretion. These days can be used either as vacation days, sick days or for holidays when the center is closed (since we charge full price for those weeks). These days must be used for days that the child is not in attendance. Parents must notify the front office staff as soon as it is known that a credit day is going to be used.

All families receiving CCDF vouchers receive personal days through the CCDF agency. These are also to be used when the child is not in attendance. Personal days must be entered before Friday at 6 p.m.

4. Late pick up?

All children must be picked up from the center by 6:00 p.m. Late fees are $20.00 per child for each 10-minute interval after 6:00 p.m. This policy is in place to deter late pick-ups. Families receiving CCDF vouchers are responsible to pay if a late fee is charged. Late fees are to be paid immediately.  If fees are not paid immediately, the center will not provide care for children until all fees are paid in full. Late pick up charges are as follows:

6:01-6:10  $20.00

6:11-6:20  $40.00

6:21-6:30  $60.00

At second occurrence within 30 days, care will be suspended for 1 week.                                                                        At third occurrence, child will be withdrawn from the program.

5. Code of Conduct

The YMCA is committed to providing a positive atmosphere that is safe and inclusive to all in our school family and community. Therefore, the YMCA follows a code of conduct to govern the actions and behaviors of all people while in our facilities and participating in Y Programs.

Individuals Are Expected to:

  • Uphold the YMCA core values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY
  • Provide and atmosphere free of vulgar language, derogatory or unwelcome comments, conduct or actions of a sexual nature of actions based on and individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, age, religion, abilities, sexual orientation or any other legally protected statues
  • Be respectful and cooperative with Y staff and others

Individuals who experience or observe inappropriate conduct are encouraged to promptly report their concern to Y staff. Every effort will be made to ensure that reports are investigated and resolved promptly and effectively.

6. Prevention of abuse

A principal endeavor of the Y is to provide a healthy atmosphere for the growth and development of youth and children. Thus, the mistreatment or neglect of youth or children and the resulting severe effects are of primary concern to the Y.

Child abuse is mistreatment or neglect of a child by parents or others resulting in injury or harm. Abuse can lead to severe emotional, physical and behavioral problems. Because of its concern for the welfare of children and youth, the Y has developed policies, standards, guidelines, and training to aid in the detection and prevention of child abuse.

YMCA employees are screened and background checked upon hiring or rehiring. Employees, who have direct contact with children and youth, receive training in recognizing, reporting and preventing child abuse. Recognizing signs that a child is being groomed for abuse is part of the training. Some of the guidelines employees are expected to follow are:

  • Avoid being alone with a single child where you cannot be observed by other staff or adults
  • No fraternizing with children who participate in YMCA programs outside of approved Y activities

(i.e.; babysitting, transportation, weekend trips, foster care are not permitted)

  • Giving personal gifts to program participants or their parents is not allowed
  • Child may not be disciplined by use of physical punishment or by failing to provide the necessities of care
  • Verbally, physically, sexually or emotionally abusing or punishing children or youth is not allowed
  • Child may be informed in a manner that is age appropriate of their right to set their own “touching” limits for personal safety
  • Any information regarding abuse or potential abuse should be documented in writing
  • At the first reasonable cause to believe that any child abuse exists, it is reported to Child Protection Services

Confidentiality of information related to child abuse is crucial and should be limited to the immediate supervisor, Director of the ELC and to the CEO of the YMCA.
